My work is influenced by the Symbolists and Impressionists painters, and the several visits to Scandinavia in my past. It is so beautiful to see the joy children have digging in the sand at the beach. I tried to capture that joyful experience. Lavender Skies is a plein air piece painted along the Potomac River. Lavender clouds were moving rapidly across the river, with the lavender clouds warming on the horizon. The movement of the clouds created a dramatic scene along the river. Palette knife and brush were used to capture the intense landscape.
