 Best in Show This photograph was taken as an homage to my Aunt Mary who was of a different era , when wearing a slip was commonplace and now seems somewhat dated but also somehow very elegant.She passed away exactly a year ago and so I hung one of her signature slips in my bedroom window and noticed how beautifully the morning light shown through the sheer fabric making it almost spirit like.  Sante Fe , NM is a not to missed for ligh, culture, sunny vibes and the best weather and food. I go as often as possible! Before an early dinner at The Shed, a local favorite, we strolled past these gorgeous fuschua, lavender and red flowers reflecting off a sunny stucco wall. How delightful!  The warming sun of spring has awakened this old warrior tree as it comes alive with buds to renew the annual cycle of life. This is a digital monochrome photograph.  The photo reference was taken mid-afternoon when the sun was high in late September in the high desert of New Mexico.  Life feels like a kaleidoscope; endlessly shifting, a dance of light and shadow. The patterns change with every glance, revealing new wonders and hidden depths. In this piece, I used light and dark values next to each other to emphasize the middle horse. Of course, I love color so I let myself go wild with reds, greens, and purples (one of my favs). I wanted to push into more abstraction with this piece--focusing mostly on colorful abstract shapes. I'm using light and dark contrast, as well as complementary colors to guide the viewer's eye.  The Japanese Magnolia tree blossoms of the spring create a beautifully choreographed waltz amid its many branches as the breeze passes through.  The afternoon sun was lighting up the front yard - soon it would be shining through the window. But for now the cyclamen plant was in the shade, while the small round wooden table reflected the blue sky. The work employs a new combination of techniques which involves removing the paint from select areas of the picture to leave just the essence of the color.  This gorgeous day had the trees glowing. I am obsessed with how light plays off the landscape, and this view captivated me.
