Dunkle, Christy-Cobalt Round, 8 diameter 225Layers of slate offer a grounded area for the mosaic lines to pass around. The richness of the 24-karat gold smalti and gold penny tile set off the cobalt glass within the piece. Duvall, Peggy-Poppies ReedsFraming and patterns are tools I use in painting to provide a room in which to study a plant with my paint. I believe this is a method I have developed through both my design work and my gardening habits. Poppy and Reeds Watercolor, Ink, Pencil & Acrylic on Cotton 10 x 10 $285 Peggy Duvall | Duvall, Peggy-Prairie BloomI am fascinated by the phases of a bloom and the endless information gathered up-close. My interest is to delve into the paint and FEEL as I do when studying a bloom. Reproduction is futile and unimportant to me. But I can approach the emotional fuel I get in gardening with the painting process and share that with others. Prairie Bloom Watercolor on Cotton 11 x 11 $485 Peggy Duvall | Ellis, Luke-CowWhile painting I think about the past sometimes. Having been raised on a farm with cows and sheep I often want to paint them, I start painting and these things appear on the canvas. I saw the yellow cow and could not keep my eyes off it. FlynnMara-IntotheLightAcrylicEveryone knows the sky is basically blue and most grass is green. But what we see on any given day depends on so many other elements, such as wind, rain, heat, smog, flora, etc. With this landscape piece, I wanted to highlight the endless array of colors present in the natural world if we look closely enough. It also reminds me how much more vivid colors appear after a torrential downpour. Into the Light Acrylic on Canvas 10 x 10 $185 Mara Flynn | Ford, Gayle Isabelle-A Touch of AutumnFall is my favorite time of the year. I love the change of seasons, after the heat of the summer. It's always a treat to be invited to see her property, and an even bigger treat to get to paint it. Every time I visit Oak Spring Farm, I feel so lucky to be invited. Hopkins, Laura-Autumn Gorve VIIIThis piece is one of a series of autumn themed paintings in which I experimented with non-traditional tools for applying paint. I used a textured ground and a window washing squeegee to establish the verticals and horizontals and a number of glazes to bring a luminous quality to the finished work. I love to experiment with new techniques. Autumn Grove VIII Oil on Panel 6 x 8 $350 Laura Hopkins | Hopkins, Laura-Landscape at EveningAs a painter in the American Tonalist tradition, I try in my work to suggest the feeling or mood of a place. This painting from my imagination is a traditional Tonalist motif, a bit of woods and meadow alongside a stream at twilight. It is my hope that this quiet scene offers you a respite from our fast moving and turbulent world. Landscape at Evening Oil on Panel 8 x 10 $350 Laura Hopkins | Hopkins, Laura-Landscape Study 114This study, like much of my work is painted from memory and imagination. Weed, Peggy-The BoxerThe Boxer Oil 11 x 14 $485 Peggy Weed | West, Sharon-Fantasy Forest"Fantasy Forest" is a gorgeous grove of birch trees surrounded by bluebells! The yellows and blues in this piece really sing together, and the white and black sunlit trees celebrate the season beautifully. Fantasy Forest Acrylic 12 x 24 $450 Sharon West | Whittle, Patricia-RosesA piece that began with drops of acrylic inks suspended in water manipulated and swirled then left to dry into an amorphous background of colorful shapes. As I studied this background hints of an image came to me and through negative painting, glazes and eventually dipping pen embellishments, the final painting was realized. I find this one of the most exciting ways to create a painting. Roses Oil 8 x 8 $180 Patricia Whittle |
Whittle, Patricia-The ArtistThis painting is my attempt to depict the smallness of man when confronted with the vastness of nature. In addition, this image can also serve as a metaphor regarding the artists relationship to the world. Painted outdoors at a plein-air event with the Loudoun Sketch Club. The Artist Oil 5 x 7 $160 Patricia Whittle | Whittle_Pat_DistantPondMy landscapes frequently depict a long view. The challenge of presenting the illusion of 3D space on a 2D surface is always a challenge and especially so when the surface is a mere 5x7. I loved how this small painting depicts so much, reminding us of how even the small things in life really matter. Painted outdoors at a plein-air event with the Loudoun Sketch Club. Distant Pond Oil 5 x 7 $160 Patricia Whittle | Wiese, Allison-Room with LilliesFlower arrangements interact with and talk to the spaces in which they are placed. This was an attempt to capture part of this conversation. Room with Lilies Pastel-Framed with Museum Glass 18 x 14 $400 Allison Wiese |
