 Best in Show Visiting the Badlands, I marveled at the parched rock formations striated with earth tones. An ancient maze sprawled out onto the plain.  Honorable Mention A southern overlook of the Shenandoah River is depicted in my painting. I walk, photograph and draw inspirations from this beautiful Shenandoah location of farmer’s fields on its banks. Often beach occupants swim, play with families and enjoy. Here is the painted result of one of my fun days at this overlook.  “Harper’s Ferry Rapids It was the first nice spring day after a hard winter. We took a ride to Harper’s Ferry, WV. We found a road that ran next to the Potomac River. We stopped to watch as the water washed over the rocks. It was so clear it looked as if we might scoop up a drink!  The reference photo for this work was a traditional landscape, green foreground, blue sky and water, and so on. I chose to use colors from the opposite side of the color wheel, so green became red, blue became yellow, etcetera. This was a fun experiment!
